Darius Slayton offered a farewell message to Giants fans after the team released the veteran wide receiver just days before opening the season on “Sunday Night Football.”
“Grateful for my time in NY. 7 years a Giant nothing but love for one of the most prestigious organizations in the NFL,” Slayton wrote Monday evening on X. “Excited to see what’s next.”
The move did not come entirely out of nowhere. After the Giants’ final preseason game, The Post’s Paul Schwartz reported that Slayton’s place on the roster was in danger as cutdown decisions approached.
Slayton’s run with the Giants began in 2019, when Big Blue drafted him in the fifth round. He went on to spend seven seasons with the franchise in East Rutherford.
He leaves the Giants with 296 receptions, 4,435 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns over his tenure with the team.

However, it seems Slayton is already drumming up interest from other teams now that he’s on the open market.
NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that three teams had already reached out for preliminary talks with the wide receiver.
No teams were named in the report, but she suggested keeping an eye on the Colts, considering the preexisting relationship between Slayton and quarterback Daniel Jones.
The Giants’ decision to move on from their longest-tenured player on the roster helped save $3 million in cap space for this year. The Giants attempted to move Slayton, but things never fell into place, so the decision to cut him was made.
Speaking with reporters last week, Slayton had said his presence brought “just another playmaker” into the Giants’ receiving room.
“I feel like we have a bunch in the room, a lot of really talented guys that we’ve added to the roster. I see myself as one of those guys in whatever capacity that I can be,” he said at the time.
