AFL WAGs’ Close-Knit Circle Turns Out for Melbourne Races

Bec Judd, Nadia Bartel, Jessie Roberts and Effie Kats remain among Melbourne’s most recognisable and tight-knit social circles.

The close friends made a stylish appearance at Crown Makybe Diva Stakes Day over the weekend, turning the racing event into a glamorous group outing.

Bec, 43, led the fashion stakes in a strapless, ankle-grazing baby-blue gown by Effie Kats. She completed the polished look with a bespoke Lauder Taylor hat, Lana Wilkinson heels and an A-esque clutch.

Her long bronde hair was worn sleek and straight, while bronzed makeup added warmth to her race-day ensemble.

The television personality also shared social media snaps alongside her husband, former AFL star Chris Judd.

Elsewhere, Henne founder Nadia, 41, arrived with her longtime partner Pete Dugmore. She opted for a sophisticated grey long-sleeved mini dress, teamed with a black pillbox hat and coordinating slingback heels.

Jessie, meanwhile, showcased her figure in a fitted, low-cut Effie Kats design featuring an inbuilt corset and a peplum waist.

She also wore a pillbox hat and black sling-back heels.

While Rebecca will be attending this year’s races, she recently revealed she may not attend the 2026 Brownlow Medal, hinting that her husband Chris could walk the red carpet with a very different plus-one.

Bec, whose glamorous appearances at the league’s night of nights have become almost as talked about as the award itself, suggested the couple’s eldest son Oscar, 15, could take her place.

Speaking to Stellar magazine, Bec said the Judd children are eager to experience the prestigious event for themselves.

‘I think my husband might take Oscar if he’s allowed to go at his age,’ she said.

‘The kids are desperate to go.’

Bec first became a household name at the 2004 Brownlow Medal when she stepped out in a red gown featuring a plunging neckline, a look that remains one of the event’s most memorable fashion moments.

The outfit, which boasted a neckline that dipped below her belly button and a daring thigh split, was created by Perth designer Ruth Tarvydas, and was valued at $2,000.

Leading the charge was Bec, 43, who looked stunning in an ankle-length, baby blue, Effie Kats strapless gown with a custom-made Lauder Taylor millinery hat, Lana Wilkinson shoes and an A-esque clutch

In 2024, Bec revealed what happened to the famous gown after she strutted down the red carpet wearing it before dozens of flashing cameras.

‘The dress was given to charity, which was auctioned off and I have not seen it since that night,’ she told Zen Design.

However, she has since been reunited with the standout look and reflected on the incredible reaction to the career-making night.

‘I had this red dress on, walked onto the red carpet and everyone had this reaction like “wow!”,’ she recalled.

‘And I thought “okay, this dress is quite something”.’

In a video, Bec was then nearly brought to tears as she was finally reunited with the stunning dress 20 years later.

‘Oh wow, it’s so cool, I feel emotional. Wow, it’s amazing,’ she said as she began to cry.

‘No one knew me before that night, and the next day half the country knew who I was.’

Bec’s show-stopping ensembles quickly became a fixture of Brownlow coverage, with fans and fashion critics alike eagerly awaiting her arrival each year.

However, after making regular appearances alongside former Carlton and West Coast great Chris, Bec was notably absent from the Brownlow red carpet between 2018 and her return in 2024.
