Mike Flanagan’s upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s “Carrie” brings the classic tale of a bullied teenage girl with telekinetic powers into the modern era. Prime Video already unveiled footage from the series at San Diego Comic-Con, and now King himself has weighed in on Flanagan’s new interpretation of his 1974 novel.
The horror icon offered emphatic praise for the miniseries in a post on Threads. “Mike Flanagan’s version of CARRIE is brilliant. What it has to say about social media is shocking and true,” King wrote.
Flanagan is no stranger to King’s work, having previously adapted “Doctor Sleep” and “The Life of Chuck.” Their established creative relationship may make King’s support less surprising, but the author’s unreserved reaction remains an encouraging sign for fans awaiting this latest version of “Carrie.”

Social media brings a new element to Carrie’s story

King’s focus on the show’s social media commentary is particularly revealing. Bullying has always been central to Carrie White’s story, and the trailer indicates that the new adaptation will make that cruelty even more immediate through a contemporary online lens. It appears the series will feature a significant social media-driven act of harassment, potentially setting in motion Carrie’s inevitable descent into telekinetic devastation.
Flanagan also has new versions of “The Mist” and “The Dark Tower” headed to television, giving admirers of both filmmakers plenty to anticipate. First, though, audiences will return to the nightmare of Carrie White, played by Summer H. Howell. Her tormentors may be in for an even worse experience than she is, while viewers could have a standout horror event waiting for them this Halloween season.
