Patrick Clancy is speaking out about the criticism and conspiracy theories that surfaced during his ex-wife Lindsay Clancy’s mistrial.
During a sit-down interview with 60 Minutes on Sept. 20, the 38-year-old discussed the intense scrutiny and speculation he has faced since the deaths of his children. Lindsay was charged with first-degree murder and pleaded not guilty.
“It’s deeply harmful to the legacy of my children,” Patrick told correspondent Ross Douthat. “It is a huge distraction from what really matters here, which is perinatal mental health. And it’s done real harm to real people, myself included but also others.”
Asked what it is like to see the online discussion, Patrick described the experience as “painful.”
“It makes it difficult to be in public,” he said. “And it’s possible that some of those people, after seeing lie after lie after lie, start to believe it, and that’s what we’re left with.”
Patrick’s wife, Rachel Danis, whom he married three years after his divorce from Lindsay, also took part in the interview. In a preview clip released by CBS, she addressed the criticism directed at him.
“I don’t understand how the story has been so twisted,” Rachel said. “But I would hope people know that Pat is, as I said before, the most selfless father and supportive partner.”
During the interview, Patrick and Rachel also confirmed that they are starting a family.
The joint interview aired less than three weeks after Lindsay’s murder trial ended with a hung jury. The 12-member panel could not reach a verdict on whether the mother of three was criminally responsible for the deaths of her and Patrick’s children: Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months.
Prosecutors said that on the evening of Jan. 24, 2023, Lindsay strangled the children with exercise bands while Patrick was out running errands. She later jumped from a window at the family’s home in Duxbury, Mass., in an apparent suicide attempt. Patrick discovered her after returning home.
Prosecutors argued that Lindsay had planned to kill the children, while her defense attorneys said she was experiencing postpartum psychosis. They maintained that she suffered a command hallucination telling her to take the lives of her children and herself.
