Patrick Clancy has spoken publicly for the first time in a national television interview, offering a glimpse of a father trying to rebuild his life after the deaths of his three children.
Online critics have portrayed Patrick as detached and accused him of being more concerned with appearances than with supporting his wife, who was experiencing serious mental-health difficulties.
But in his appearance on 60 Minutes, he described something very different: an unimaginable personal catastrophe and the slow, painful process of learning how to live with it.
Much of the public discussion surrounding the case has focused on the investigation, the trial and the speculation that spread online. Less widely remembered is that one of the three children survived for four agonizing days. Baby Callan remained alive despite the devastating injuries he had suffered, and Patrick held on to hope that his son might somehow recover.
“I remember that night I, uh, I really thought there was a chance that Callan would live. And I remember thinking, ‘Give me one, just give me one kid.’ And I would raise him the best I could and I would give him the best life I possibly could and I’d tell him about his brother and sister, and I was holding out hope for that.”
That hope did not last. Callan ultimately died, leaving Patrick to endure the devastating experience of holding his infant son and praying for a miracle that never came.
Even so, some public figures and online commentators continued to accuse Patrick of responsibility for the deaths. Among them was Lisa Rinna, who alleged in a TikTok video that he was involved in the killings, without evidence presented in the interview to support that claim.
Patrick became visibly emotional as he recalled the final moments with his son. “I said, ‘I’m so sorry,’ and I got to hold him, I got to lay down next to him. And he died in my arms.”
On 60 Minutes, Patrick described living through an unimaginable nightmare while trying to find a way forward.

60 Minutes host Ross Douthat asked Patrick whether he had considered suicide. Patrick replied: “Yeah. There was a time where I didn’t think I would live to see my 35th birthday and I was completely fine with it.”
As people searched for an explanation of how the family reached such a tragic point, suspicion repeatedly fell on Patrick. Social-media investigators and amateur commentators portrayed him as neglectful or narcissistic, despite the absence of evidence supporting those characterizations.
Patrick also spoke about the way he commemorated Callan’s first birthday, a milestone the child never lived to see.

“How do you celebrate your son’s first birthday months after he’s passed away?” Patrick said. “And so, I go to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, I light a candle and I say, ‘I love you, buddy!’ And I walk out on Fifth Avenue, and I start crying my eyes out. And nobody cared.”
His comment that “nobody cared” reflected the privacy he found in New York as he tried to process his grief. Patrick had left the family’s home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, after an especially painful experience: driving past his children’s former school as their young classmates arrived for the day.
Patrick is no longer living alone, a fact that has fueled further online speculation. He met Rachel Danis, and the couple married in April.
Some people online have accused Patrick of having an affair and suggested, without evidence, that he killed his children in order to be with Danis.
Another explanation is that Patrick endured an extraordinary tragedy, was left devastated by the loss of his family and has since faced relentless public scrutiny. Asked by Patrick about the killings, Lindsay reportedly described them as dreamlike. According to Patrick: “She said it was like a dream, and she remembered it much in the way you’d remember a dream after waking up.”
On Sunday the couple admitted they are starting their own family, which is one of the questions I had before the interview, and it’s now been confirmed that Rachel is pregnant. I’m happy for them. Whether or not the pro-Lindsay pink T-shirt posse wants to admit it, Patrick deserves to move on with his life.
Who knows if he will have to relive another painful trial and take the stand to make sure his ex-wife never breeds again, but we are not the ones to decide if an innocent man brings another child into the world when his troubled baby mama took his first three out of it.
So how did Lindsay describe the killings when her husband asked her about it? According to Patrick: ‘She said it was like a dream, and she remembered it much in the way you’d remember a dream after waking up.’
And it is in the realm of sleep where Patrick occasionally still has glimpses of his children.
‘I remember early on having a dream, maybe six months or a year after,’ he said. ‘I’m at the kitchen at the house and Cora walks in and I just look at her, and I just say, “Where have you been?” and she comes up and gives me a big hug. Those dreams are so real. It’s like I’m lucid in those dreams.’
It feels like the nightmare of this saga will never end. I wish Lindsay peace and hope for some sort of resolution. And while nothing can ever bring his kids back, Patrick’s words served as a reminder that as long as we are here, life can move on.
