With its deep connections to MCU history, “VisionQuest” could be Marvel’s most ambitious Disney+ series yet. Before the show arrives, Looper’s video above offers a concise recap of the essential storylines, characters, and lore viewers need to remember.
Paul Bettany returns as Vision, while James Spader reprises his role as Ultron, the artificial intelligence villain from “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” The series picks up directly from Marvel’s first Disney+ original, “WandaVision.” In that show, a grieving Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) trapped the residents of Westview inside a magical Hex and forced them to perform sitcom-inspired scenarios as she struggled to cope with Vision’s death in “Avengers: Infinity War.”

The Vision created by Wanda to play her husband in the Westview fantasy ultimately disappears, but another version survives. This pale, reassembled android—known as White Vision—is rebuilt from the original’s body, yet lacks the memories and emotional experiences that once made him human. Initially hostile, he is persuaded to stand down when Wanda’s Vision invokes the Ship of Theseus thought experiment. In “VisionQuest,” White Vision must confront that unresolved identity crisis as he searches for answers about his true nature.
VisionQuest brings several MCU artificial intelligences back
The first “VisionQuest” trailer also confirmed Ultron’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and teased several artificial-intelligence entities connected to Vision’s mind. Among the most significant is James D’Arcy’s J.A.R.V.I.S., who appears through the human likeness of Edwin Jarvis, the Stark family’s former butler. The character is best known from “Agent Carter,” though he has also appeared in “Avengers: Endgame” and “What If…?”
Tommy Maximoff (Ruaridh Mollica) is another key returning character. He is one of Wanda and Vision’s magically created sons from “WandaVision.” The series’ later spin-off, “Agatha All Along,” established that Tommy’s brother Billy (Joe Locke) survived the collapse of the Hex—an event that could have major consequences for the story ahead.
Those familiar faces represent only a fraction of the Marvel lore expected to surface in “VisionQuest.” Looper has already explored several predictions for the upcoming series, and the video above provides the missing context ahead of its debut on October 14.
