The mayor says pumps are staged and ready to alleviate potential flooding
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Daytona Beach public works crews are lowering water levels in several ponds and tracking conditions as the city braces for several inches of rain that could intensify flooding in low-lying neighborhoods.
According to the mayor, crews are concentrating on locations with a history of flooding, including Butts Park, Madison Avenue Pond and North Street Pond. Lowering the water in those ponds is intended to provide additional capacity before the heaviest rainfall arrives.
The city has also deployed an emergency pump in the Fairway Estates neighborhood and another at the Gardiner Court Pump Station.
City officials are urging residents to remain alert as rain moves into the area. Drivers and pedestrians should stay away from flooded streets and standing water. The city is reinforcing its safety warning: “Turn around, don’t drown.”
Residents can assist by reporting clogged storm drains to the Daytona Beach Public Works Department through the city’s online reporting system.
