A shirtless burglar was caught crawling through the ceiling of a Macy’s store in Washington state before plunging to the floor and being arrested after an hour-long standoff, dramatic video shows.
Employees at the Vancouver shopping mall contacted police Sept. 30 after seeing the man move above them, breaking ceiling tiles and damaging lights, wiring and other fixtures as he made his way through the overhead space, the Vancouver Police Department said on social media.
Police evacuated the second floor of the Vancouver Macy’s department store while officers worked to bring the intruder down safely.
According to KATU, officers positioned a ladder inside the ceiling and placed a mattress below it in case the man fell through the tiles.
The ceiling-crawling suspect ignored repeated commands to come down and continued damaging the store from above.

After more than an hour of negotiations, police said the man, identified as Gabriel Hideo, finally stepped onto the ladder. He then apparently changed his mind and began climbing back into the ceiling.
Officers pulled on the ladder to prevent Hideo from retreating overhead. He subsequently fell through the ceiling, appeared to strike the ladder and landed on the mattress below, according to video of the incident.
“He landed on the mattress, got up and tried to run. That didn’t work out so well,” the police department said in a Facebook post.
The footage shows Hideo rolling across the floor in a parkour-style move before attempting to sprint away from the officers.
Police eventually arrested the shirtless suspect, who could be heard grunting loudly as officers placed him in handcuffs.
Hideo was booked into the Clark County Jail on first-degree charges of malicious mischief and burglary, as well as an outstanding felony warrant, according to the outlet.
