Fat Tuesday to Return to Jacksonville After 30-Year Absence

Fat Tuesday, famous for its flavorful frozen cocktails and daiquiris, was founded in 1984 on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Nearly three decades after leaving the city, Fat Tuesday is bringing its festive atmosphere back to Jacksonville with a new location in Five Points.

The New Orleans-inspired bar and restaurant, known for its signature frozen drinks, plans to open Oct. 9 in two neighboring storefronts.

Fat Tuesday Kitchen & Bar will occupy the 2,300-square-foot space at 1043 Park St., formerly home to Timoti’s Seafood Shak and the Five Points location of Karibo.

The restaurant will offer a full bar, a complete kitchen menu and Fat Tuesday’s best-known specialty: its frozen cocktails.

Next door, Fat Tuesday Social Lounge will open at 1045 Park St. The 2,700-square-foot space previously housed Rain Dogs, which closed in December 2024.

Open Thursday through Sunday, the lounge will feature a more curated cocktail selection, limited-time frozen flavors and smaller bites aimed at a late-night crowd. DJs, live music and themed events will round out the experience.

Since its 1984 debut on Bourbon Street, Fat Tuesday has built its reputation on bold frozen cocktails while also serving a broader selection of spirits and classic pub fare.

  • “World-famous frozen daiquiris”: Frozen flavors from the 190 Octane line, including the Original and Blue Razz, with other fan favorites like Cat 5 Hurricane, Piña Colada, Mango, and Strawberry, served in your choice of cup, including the Instagram favorite souvenir Yard Dog.
  • Signature cocktails: Daiquiri-based creations on the rocks like the 190 Blue Lemonade, Mango Rum River, and the Patrón Daiquirita, alongside frozen combos like the Kenny Freeze, Rocket Fuel, and Lil’ Henny.
  • Full bar: Tequila, vodka, rum, whiskey, gin, and cognac from top-shelf brands, plus beer, seltzers, hard iced tea, and specialty shots.
  • Full kitchen: The menu features crispy wings, loaded nachos, smash burgers, seafood baskets, and tacos, with combo deals for guests who want to mix and match.

Brand executives said in a news release that Downtown Jacksonville is the 11th location in Fat Tuesday’s new wave of experience-focused, full-service flagship restaurants. The national expansion is designed to generate buzz and create viral moments.

“Downtown Jacksonville has exactly the kind of energy we build Fat Tuesday around: watch parties, live music, and people out looking for a good time,” Alex Monahan, Fat Tuesday’s CEO, said in the release. “This is a city that knows how to have fun, and we’re excited to be part of it.”

Fat Tuesday previously operated in Jacksonville as one of the original tenants at the former Jacksonville Landing. It opened June 25, 1987, on the center’s second floor, where it offered views of the St. Johns River.

The restaurant also became a popular lunch destination, serving po’boy sandwiches along with jambalaya, gumbo, red beans and rice and other New Orleans-inspired dishes.

Fat Tuesday closed its Landing location in June 1997 after a decade in business. The center’s owner, The Rouse Co., chose not to renew the lease as part of an effort to reshape the festival marketplace’s image, the Times-Union reported at the time.

In Five Points, the new Fat Tuesday locations will join nearby restaurants such as Brew, 904 Tacos, Ben & Jerry’s, Rodrigo’s Craft Pizza and Sausage House.
