Mother Dies Protecting Baby in 15-Story Bronx Fall as Police Search for Suspect: Report

A New York City mother was killed and her infant daughter critically injured after police said the pair were allegedly pushed from an apartment balcony in the Bronx. Detectives are searching for a man wanted in connection with the suspected attack.

The NYPD identified Angel Carrasco, 31, as the suspect sought by investigators. Nathaly Ramirez, 23, and her 8-month-old daughter were discovered outside their Bronx apartment building early Tuesday.

According to FOX 5 NY, the mother and child fell from a 15th-floor balcony. Investigators were reportedly focusing on Ramirez’s boyfriend or former boyfriend as part of a suspected domestic violence investigation.

Investigators believe Ramirez held her daughter tightly during the fall, possibly shielding the baby from some of the impact, ABC7 NY reported.

Neighbors said they heard a desperate cry shortly before the incident.

“Please don’t do this!” Ramirez shouted, according to neighbors cited by FOX 5.

Officers responded to a 911 call at about 3:38 a.m. Tuesday outside 2550 Olinville Ave. They found Ramirez and her daughter suffering from injuries consistent with a fall from a height, the NYPD told News Media.

“Further investigation determined that both individuals had been pushed from a balcony,” the department said.

Officers took the baby to a hospital, where she remained in critical condition. Emergency medical workers transported Ramirez to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The NYPD named Carrasco as wanted in connection with the case in an update Wednesday and released his image. Police did not disclose his relationship with Ramirez or say whether charges had been filed.

Sources told FOX 5 that Ramirez and Carrasco had a history of domestic violence and that officers had been called to the apartment several times. A neighbor who lives two doors away said she had repeatedly heard arguing from the home.

A neighbor identified only as Mike told ABC7 that a man had tried to force his way into Ramirez’s apartment in January.

“He was kicking the door down trying to get into the apartment,” Mike told the station.

Police said no arrests have been made and that the investigation is continuing.
