Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Ohio Neighbors Refuse to Back Down

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are facing resistance from neighbors after buying a lakefront mansion in Ohio that could become the celebrity couple’s “forever home.” The pair, who married at Madison Square Garden in July 2026, also own properties in New York and Los Angeles. Their plans to add fencing and trees around the Ohio estate for privacy and security, however, have sparked objections from residents. According to the Daily Mail, Katherine Bolton, who lives next door, raised concerns about trees being planted near a shared sewer line and the potential problems their roots could create in the future.

Bolton also described Swift and Kelce’s arrival in the Bratenahl community as a “tremendous blow [to] the peace and quiet” of the area. During a meeting with Bratenahl’s Architectural Review Board, she reportedly asked, “What am I going to do when I have 50 evergreen trees on my sewer line, and they’re gone?” She added that the couple might sell the property or move elsewhere, while she would still be living in Bratenahl. Another longtime resident, Chuck Bauernschmidt, objected to the large-scale removal of trees and shrubs. He specifically warned that the proposed privacy fence could create a safety risk for animals in the neighborhood.

“It’s now ridiculous,” Bauernschmidt said. “All the trees are gone.” Residents also questioned whether a fence would do much to protect Swift and Kelce from paparazzi. Bolton’s husband argued that drones and the water posed the bigger security risks, adding that the available ways to stop those types of intrusions were limited and legally complicated.

Swift and Kelce’s application for a privacy fence has been granted

It’s safe to say that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s efforts to tighten security around their Ohio home haven’t exactly endeared the celebrity couple to their new neighbors, who couldn’t help but get Meghan and Harry vibes from the situation. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who recently returned to the U.K., also faced issues around their neighborhood after relocating to California in 2020. Aside from wanting a fence built around their sprawling estate, Page Six reported that the “Cleveland!” singer and NFL star have also installed additional security measures, including an automatic voice warning system for anyone who ventures too close to their home. An insider source detailed how a neighbor discovered this after they “approached the house and got a voice warning about not passing onto the property.” Residents wondered whether it was even necessary.

Patrick Hyland, who manages the couple’s Ohio property, said Swift and Kelce had allowed neighbors to access part of the estate after hearing their concerns. He also revealed that they agreed to pay for the repair and cleaning of a damaged shared sewer, “without asking for any help, just to show that we’re good neighbors,” according to the Daily Mail. Despite the objections, Bratenahl’s Architectural Review Board approved the couple’s request to build a fence after hearing from both residents and representatives. Still, the ongoing dispute suggests this may not be the last time Swift and Kelce’s Ohio neighbors voice concerns about the property.
