Trump Mocks New York’s ‘Gestating Parent’ Law at Syracuse Rally

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – President Donald Trump mocked New York Democrats in Albany after lawmakers advanced legislation that would replace references to “mother” and “father” in some state laws with terms such as “gestating parent.”

Speaking at a rally in Syracuse on Friday, Trump attacked Empire State Democrats, calling Gov. Kathy Hochul a “radical left lunatic.” He criticized legislation addressing surrogacy that uses the terms “gestating” and “non-gestating” parent and refers to “parentage” proceedings rather than “paternity” hearings.

“Kathy Hochul supports transgender mutilation of your children. She supports men in women’s sports and a bill that would change the terms of mother and father to gestating and non-gestating parents,” Trump said.

“You can no longer say, ‘Mother, hi Mom!’ It’s ‘Hi, gestating,’” the president joked.

“‘Hi, gestating, I love you so much, gestating,’” he continued, drawing laughter from the several thousand people at the rally. Trump then urged voters to support Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman in the governor’s race.

“New York needs to throw out this radical left lunatic and elect Bruce Blakeman,” Trump told the crowd.

Blakeman, the Republican nominee, trails Hochul by 11 percentage points in the latest Marist poll, released Wednesday. A Siena University survey last month, however, showed him within single digits of the incumbent governor.

“This is insane,” Blakeman said earlier in the event while discussing the legislation, which uses the term “parentage.”

“You see, they want to take control away from parents. They’re denigrating moms and dads. They’re letting Albany make the decisions that should be up to parents,” the Long Island politician said.

A spokesperson for Hochul said the governor “believes mothers are mothers and fathers are fathers, and no legislation changes that.”

“The legislation, which we will review, appears to address technical legal issues related to surrogacy and parentage,” the spokesperson added. “Anyone making bad-faith arguments is deliberately misleading New Yorkers for political gain.”
