NEWBERRY, Fla. – Cameron Scott Hickey, 28, is facing 35 charges involving sexually explicit communications with young teenagers and the alleged use of a computer to solicit a child.

The investigation began April 1, when an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office detective received a CyberTip from Discord concerning a conversation about buying images from an account claiming to belong to a 13-year-old.

As the detective reviewed that report, investigators identified two additional CyberTips. One, submitted in September 2025, involved another Discord account connected to the same phone number. A third report, filed in March 2026, also used that number and included messages such as, “its just more pedo rambling and thirsting about underage girls… Isn’t it so hot that’s its illegal, like getting to corrupt a super underage girl and turning her into a sex addicted slut.” The account reportedly attempted to justify the remarks by writing, “back in jesus’s day people were marrying 14 year olds… [Jesus] hopefully doesn’t care about me wanting to f*** a 14 year old.”

Investigators reportedly traced the phone number to Hickey across multiple services, including Venmo, Microsoft Teams and Facebook. The number had also been used by Hickey when reporting a vehicle burglary in July 2023 and another incident in March 2021. The vehicle involved in the burglary report was registered to Hickey, with a St. Cloud address and a Newberry mailing address listed in connection with it.

Subpoenaed records for the Discord accounts’ IP addresses reportedly led investigators to a gym where Hickey was a member, as well as the Newberry and St. Cloud residences.

A search warrant was carried out at the Newberry home on June 24. Hickey was interviewed but, after being advised of his Miranda rights, reportedly declined to respond to questions.

Investigators reportedly found a Snapchat account on Hickey’s phone containing conversations with users who said they were 12, 13 or 14 years old.

In one exchange, Hickey allegedly discussed meeting a girl “younger than 13 years old” while claiming that he was 17. In another conversation, he reportedly said he was interested in “age gaps,” a phrase the detective described as commonly used by people referring to attraction to children. In a separate chat, Hickey allegedly wrote that he “id be in prison” if the conversation became known.

Records obtained from Snapchat reportedly included images sent to Hickey during the chats. One showed a close-up of a child’s clothed breasts, while another contained images investigators described as “clearly a child.”

The Snapchat account also reportedly contained saved images of Hickey shirtless and wearing underwear.

A subpoena for the Discord account allegedly uncovered a conversation with a user who said she was 12. In the exchange, Hickey reportedly described wanting to choke and “break” her during sex. He allegedly wrote, “tbh (to be honest) the fact that its illegal kinda makes it hotter in a way,” and said he would be “rough and aggressive” and would “abuse” her. He also reportedly said that, had he known her earlier, “id have groomed you since kindergarten,” and called her “a pedophiles dream lol.” The sworn complaint describes multiple other conversations with similar content.

Hickey also allegedly sent 21 pornographic images to a user he believed was 14. During another conversation lasting roughly five hours, he reportedly discussed various sex acts with someone claiming to be 13 and sent a photograph of his genitals. In that exchange, Hickey allegedly represented himself as 17 years old.

The charges include two counts of using a computer to seduce a child while falsely claiming a different age, two counts of using a computer to seduce a child, eight counts of explicit communication with a minor, 22 counts of transmitting harmful material to a minor and one count of unlawful use of a two-way communications device. Hickey has no known local criminal history. He remains jailed without bail while the State Attorney’s Office seeks to keep him detained through trial. If that request is denied, a judge will determine bail at the hearing.
