NYC E-Bike Rider Clings to Life After Hit-and-Run, Police Say

An e-bike rider was fighting for his life Wednesday after a hit-and-run driver struck him on a busy Brooklyn street Tuesday night, police said.

The 33-year-old cyclist was traveling south in the right lane of Nostrand Avenue near Atlantic Avenue in Crown Heights, a busy commercial area, at about 7:30 p.m. when he was hit by the driver of a white 2026 Hyundai Elantra, according to authorities.

Police said the Hyundai had been traveling in the center lane before its driver began merging right, colliding with the e-bike rider.

The impact threw the cyclist onto the pavement, leaving him with head trauma, cops said.

Emergency responders took him to Kings County Hospital Center, where he was in critical condition Wednesday, police said.

The Hyundai driver fled south on Nostrand Avenue and had not been found, according to police.

The Brooklyn crash came just weeks after a pickup truck driver fatally struck an e-bike rider in the Bronx, police and sources said.

The 50-year-old cyclist was riding west on East 145th Street around 8:25 a.m. Oct. 7 when a truck traveling south on Brook Avenue in Mott Haven hit him, authorities and law enforcement sources said.

The 55-year-old pickup truck driver remained at the scene and was not charged, police said.

Last month, a delivery worker was killed in Herald Square after a dump truck struck her e-bike and then fled, according to police and an advocacy group.

The truck collided with the 50-year-old cyclist on the morning of Sept. 28 as both were traveling west on West 34th Street near Seventh Avenue, police said.

The woman was making a delivery on a JOCO rental e-bike and was pronounced dead at the scene.
