Florida A&M Shooting: 5 Victims Released, 1 Still Critical

Five people wounded in a shooting near Florida A&M University have been discharged from the hospital, while six others remain hospitalized, including one patient in critical condition, Tallahassee police said Sunday morning.

The latest update came hours after gunfire broke out near the university’s Bragg Memorial Stadium Saturday night. Twelve people were injured, including six children, and police said 11 of the victims suffered gunshot wounds.

The investigation remains active, and police said they will release more information as it becomes available.

Authorities said the shooting occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Perry and Manatee streets, a short distance from Florida A&M’s football stadium.

The victims included six adults and six juveniles, the youngest of whom was 11 years old, Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence E. Revell said at a news conference Saturday night.

According to investigators, preliminary evidence indicates that a physical confrontation involving two or three people took place before the shooting.

The violence unfolded during Florida A&M University’s homecoming weekend, when students and alumni had gathered in Tallahassee for the school’s annual celebrations.

Florida Lt. Gov. Jay Collins called for prayers for the victims, their families and the broader community in a social media post.

“My heart goes out to the victims and families impacted by the shooting near FAMU,” Collins wrote on X. “Knowing children were among those injured makes this even more heartbreaking.”

Police had not announced any arrests as of their latest update.
