Pennhurst Asylum is a fun, fear-filled experience that transforms the historic property into a Halloween Haunt for the ages.

Spring City, Pa — Pennhurst Asylum transforms the historic property into a thrilling Halloween haunt filled with suspense, scares and immersive entertainment. Proceeds from the attraction help support the museum and historic tours, which examine the site’s significant and complex past.

The fictional haunt comes to life through elaborate animatronics, dramatic lighting, atmospheric sound effects and live performances by skilled actors. Visitors move through the original administration building and tunnels of the former Pennhurst State School, encountering disorienting twists, sudden jump scares and special effects designed to make the experience feel remarkably real.

Pennhurst State School opened in 1908 and closed in 1987 following years of reported abuse. The institution later became a worldwide symbol in the movement for disability rights and reform. A museum is now being developed to preserve artifacts from the abandoned buildings, while historic tours trace the property’s transformation from a state-of-the-art facility at its opening to a tragic institution by the time it closed.

Pennhurst has also drawn numerous paranormal investigators, some of whom report finding evidence of unexplained activity. In addition to its historic tours, the property hosts paranormal investigations throughout the year.
