Hallmark has built its reputation on romantic stories, from royal heirs finding love with ordinary bakers to hometown realtors reconnecting with charming locals. With so many feel-good romances released each year, lavish weddings and stylish bridal gowns are naturally part of the formula. Yet the wedding fashion seen on screen has not always matched the real-life choices of the actresses who have played Hallmark’s leading ladies.
Considering that many of these stars spend their careers portraying hopeless romantics, it is hardly surprising that their off-screen love lives have also included memorable happy endings. Actresses such as Jodie Sweetin and Alexa PenaVega found lasting relationships and celebrated weddings of their own. Their bridal looks, however, were not always as polished as the gowns worn by their characters. While each woman looked beautiful and clearly enjoyed her special day, some dresses missed the mark because of their fit, styling, or mismatch with the venue.
So which Hallmark favorites could have made stronger bridal fashion choices? A handful of stars had wedding gowns that, despite their sentimental value, were less successful from a style perspective.
Jodie Sweetin’s wedding dress bodice didn’t suit the TV star
Jodie Sweetin has walked down the aisle more than once, but her 2022 wedding to current husband Mescal Wasilewski featured a gown that was not quite as flattering as it might have been. The allover lace was a lovely choice, but the silhouette and especially the neckline seemed less successful. Thin straps and a plunging V-neck created an awkward effect, while the statement necklace added even more visual weight. Photos also suggested that the waistline did not fit perfectly. Still, the intricate back and long lace train gave the dress plenty of romantic appeal, allowing Sweetin to carry it off.
Sweetin was also working under a tight deadline, which ruled out the possibility of having a custom gown made and may have influenced her final decision. She chose the first dress she tried on, telling People that it felt “perfect” and required only hemming.
The dress did have one undeniable advantage: comfort. “I can sit in it,” Sweetin explained, adding that she did not want to spend her wedding day feeling restricted or uncomfortable. “I put it on and I felt gorgeous.” The gown may not have been her most flattering look, but Sweetin loved it—and that showed as she smiled her way down the aisle with family, friends, and her “Full House” castmates nearby.
The wedding dress Alexa PenaVega chose left a lot to be desired
Alexa PenaVega’s romance with Carlos PenaVega has played out both on and off screen. The pair first appeared together in the 2017 Hallmark film “Enchanted Christmas” and have since shared the screen in several more romantic movies. They began dating in 2012, married two years later, and have welcomed three children. Their real-life wedding was a relaxed beach celebration in Mexico, surrounded by loved ones. The setting was undeniably joyful, but Alexa’s gown was less successful.

The laid-back venue may have influenced the bride’s choice, but the ivory satin dress was awkwardly proportioned. Sparkling embellishments decorated the area beneath the nape of her neck, while the remainder of the back was left open. The loose construction caused the fabric to gather unflatteringly across the front, and a single long panel draped down one side.
The flowing detail made some sense for a beach wedding, but the overall fit could have been more streamlined. PenaVega’s flower crown also competed with the gown’s more formal elements, particularly the ornate back detailing. The satin fabric and creamy ivory shade felt somewhat disconnected from the setting, while a crisp white might have complemented her better. Even so, the ceremony looked beautiful, and Alexa and Carlos appeared thrilled to begin married life together.
Tamera Mowry-Housley’s wedding dress took away from her natural beauty
Tamera Mowry-Housley wore multiple gowns when she married Adam Housley, including separate looks for the ceremony and reception. One was noticeably more successful than the other. Her reception dress was refined and delicate, but the Carolina Herrera gown she selected for the ceremony felt overwhelming. The strapless mermaid design featured a dramatic poufy skirt and an oversized bow on one side. Given the sleek fabric and straight neckline, the dress might have been expected to look streamlined, yet the elaborate details seemed to compete with the bride herself.
Her hairstyle added to the excess. Mowry-Housley wore a highly structured updo with considerable volume at the crown, swept back into a formal arrangement. A glittering necklace and matching earrings brought still more drama, but neither the jewelry nor the hairstyle enhanced her natural features. Her reception gown, by comparison, was elegant and allowed her beauty to take center stage.
Speaking with Glamour, Mowry-Housley revealed that she actually wore three wedding outfits, including a shorter fitted dress later in the evening. She joked that she might rethink the plan after her husband could not find her because she was changing. Despite the criticism her main gown might invite today, Mowry-Housley has always loved it, saying she dreams of wearing it again to renew her vows. Ultimately, the bride’s happiness remains the most important part of any wedding look.
Candace Cameron Bure’s gown felt old-fashioned even for the 1990s
Candace Cameron Bure is no longer with Hallmark, but her years of starring in the network’s films have made her a lasting fan favorite. Her fashion choices today are often polished, though her bridal style was firmly rooted in the 1990s. Cameron Bure married Valeri Bure in 1996, during an era known for some of fashion’s most excessive trends, but even with that context, her wedding gown could have benefited from a simpler approach.
Cameron Bure wore a lace, long-sleeved, off-the-shoulder gown with a massive skirt and a voluminous tiered veil. The combination created an unusually busy result. Removing even one or two of those elements might have brought the look into balance, but together they overwhelmed her. The silhouette was not especially flattering, the sleeves made the gown feel heavier, and the neckline appeared slightly ill-fitting. She completed the ensemble with an equally dramatic bouquet of white roses.
The dress can partly be explained by the fashion of the mid-1990s, although it looked even more dated than many styles from that period. In any case, Cameron Bure’s wedding gown is best viewed as a piece of the past. Her marriage, however, has proved far more enduring: she and Valeri remain together three decades later and have built a family with three children.
