Who Inherited Liam Payne’s Estate After His Death?

When Liam Payne died on October 16, 2024, One Direction fans worldwide were left grieving a singer who was only 31. His death meant the loss of a father, former bandmate and global pop star, but it also ended any hope of the One Direction reunion Payne had frequently discussed. The group’s final gathering came under heartbreaking circumstances: his funeral, not the celebratory comeback fans had imagined. Payne died in Argentina after falling from the third-floor balcony of his hotel while heavily intoxicated. As supporters gathered in Argentina and around the world to process the devastating news, many also began asking what would happen to the singer’s estate.

One Direction became one of the biggest acts of the 2010s, building a devoted fan base while its members were still very young. Payne was also the father of Bear, who was 7 when he died. The boy was born to Payne and Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole, now known as Cheryl Tweedy; the couple ended their relationship in 2018. According to a Daily Mail report published in June 2026, Bear is the sole heir to his father’s estimated £21 million fortune.

Because Payne did not leave a will, his estate is set to pass to Bear under U.K. inheritance law. A U.K. grant document known as Letters of Administration also means the inheritance can be managed for Bear as he grows older, rather than automatically being placed entirely in his hands when he turns 18. The assets reportedly include a substantial property in Buckinghamshire along with a significant trust.

What Liam Payne said about his hopes for his son’s future

Payne and Cheryl Cole welcomed Bear in 2017, two years after One Direction announced its split. As he moved into a new stage of life, fatherhood became central to Payne’s identity. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, he described the constant focus parenthood brought, saying, “It’s the first thing you think about in the morning and the last thing you think about at night.”

Payne also spoke about securing his son’s future during an appearance on Logan Paul’s podcast, “Impaulsive,” saying, “My life now is his, my money is his.” He added that he had several operating companies Bear could one day take over if he chose, including Hampton Music Limited, Hampton Publishing Limited, Long Play Touring LLP and Second Way Property.

Bear’s life has always been kept quite private, so it’s not totally clear what he’s up to today. Tweedy, who was appointed an administrator of Payne’s estate, posted a rare Instagram photo of Bear at Disney World in April 2026. What is obvious, however, is the incredible support Bear has in his life and how special his father was to so many people. While things were on the rocks with Payne’s band members before his death, it seems that they’ve put any bad blood aside. In his tribute message to Payne on Instagram, Louis Tomlinson made sure to note, “I want you to know that if Bear ever needs me I will be the Uncle he needs in his life and tell him stories of how amazing his dad was.” It seems that despite the tragedy, Bear will have a wealth of funds as well as love, which is, perhaps, everything Payne could have hoped for.
