A 19-year-old Wichita State University student was arrested on a rape charge, marking the second campus arrest involving an alleged sex crime in less than a month.
James Vandenberg, a freshman, was taken into custody Saturday at an on-campus dormitory, according to The Sunflower, Wichita State’s student newspaper.
Vandenberg was photographed smiling during booking at the Sedgwick County Jail. He was initially held on a $100,000 bond and later released after posting it.
Authorities had not immediately released additional details about the allegations.
Earlier this month, Wichita State student Aaron Christian was arrested by campus police on charges of aggravated domestic battery and rape.

Following Christian’s arrest, Wichita State University Director of Communication Lainie Mazzullo-Hart told local outlet KWCH that the school, which has more than 18,000 students, “takes all reports of sexual assault seriously.”

“Sexual violence has no place in any campus community, and we are committed to following all applicable laws, reporting, investigative and student-support processes,” she said.
Wichita State did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
