Why Taylor Swift Won’t Get Marriage Advice From Selena Gomez

Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez are both newlyweds, having walked down the aisle just months apart, but Gomez isn’t rushing to hand her longtime friend a marriage manual. After a series of highly publicized romances, Gomez married music producer Benny Blanco in an intimate California ceremony in September 2025, a little more than two years after they began dating. Swift followed with her own storybook celebration, marrying Travis Kelce over the Fourth of July weekend in 2026 in an event widely dubbed “America’s royal wedding.”

At her Rare Impact Fund Benefit in October 2026, Gomez celebrated the fact that she and Swift are now both married—even amid earlier reports that she had been less than enthusiastic about Swift’s relationship with Kelce. “No, I love that!” the Rare Beauty founder said on the red carpet in an interview with ET. Although Gomez has been married longer, she isn’t positioning herself as Swift’s relationship expert. Instead, she suggested her best friend may be the one with the better advice, saying of the pop superstar, “I think she’s probably the best to give me that.” It’s a fitting reflection of the supportive dynamic they’ve shared for years.

Gomez has relied on Swift for perspective and reassurance since the beginning of their friendship. In 2009, she described Swift as her first call whenever she needed help with romance—or virtually anything else—telling Seventeen magazine, “Every single problem I ever have is healable by Taylor Swift! … she gives the most thought-out answers.” Gomez added that Swift’s guidance had helped her maintain her belief in love.

Selena Gomez clearly looks up to Taylor Swift

Over the years, Gomez has repeatedly highlighted the impact of Swift’s friendship. In 2014, she recalled one particularly lasting lesson about leaving her comfort zone and surrounding herself with people who encourage growth. “… she just kind of looked at me and was like, ‘Selena, if you’re the smartest person in the room, I think you’re going to be in the wrong room,’” Gomez said on “The Talk,” according to E! News. Swift, Gomez explained, urged her to stay close to people who would challenge and motivate her. “It kind of stuck to me,” she said. In a 2020 interview with WSJ Magazine, Gomez also credited Swift with helping her recognize her value and remaining present through both difficult and joyful chapters.

Swift has expressed the same deep affection for Gomez. In a statement to WSJ, the “Bad Blood” singer said their bond has carried a distinctly familial quality since they became close in 2008, partly through their connections to the Jonas Brothers. “There has always been this quality of sisterhood, and I don’t say that in a basic way,” Swift said. “I knew from when I met her I would always have her back.” Swift may be known for making peace with some former rivals, including Katy Perry, but she has suggested that anyone who hurt Gomez would face a much tougher response. That kind of loyalty is the clearest sign of a lasting friendship.
