Dark Matter Season 3: Premiere Date and Apple TV+ Renewal News

Without giving anything away, the closing moments of Dark Matter Season 2, Episode 10, “No Quiet Life,” are sure to leave Apple TV viewers demanding another chapter. The big question now is whether the sci-fi hit will return for Season 3.

Dark Matter delivered a memorable Season 1 finale, and the second season matched that energy with an equally explosive conclusion. The official episode synopsis teased that “a high-stakes gambit leads to unintended consequences.” In a conversation with Decider, star Jimmi Simpson hinted that carefully laid plans would collide with an unforeseen reality. The finale made good on that warning.

What comes next after the shocking Dark Matter Season 2 finale? How many episodes are included in Season 2, and has Apple TV renewed or canceled the series? Most importantly, will there be a Dark Matter Season 3, and when could new episodes premiere?

Here’s the latest on a possible Dark Matter Season 3, including insight from producer Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry and comments Simpson shared with Decider.

How Many Episodes Are In Dark Matter Season 2? Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 10 Release Date:

Following the format of its first season, Dark Matter Season 2 features 10 episodes. Episode 10, “No Quiet Life,” aired Thursday, Oct. 29, at 9:00 p.m. ET, officially bringing the season to a close.

Will There Be A Dark Matter Season 3?

Apple TV had not formally announced a Season 3 renewal before the Season 2 finale aired, but that does not necessarily signal bad news. Streamers often take time to evaluate a series after a season concludes. In this case, the story still has plenty of room to continue, while Season 2 earned a Certified Fresh 82% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Creative plans for a third season are also already in place.

Speaking with ScreenRant, producer Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry revealed that the creative team envisioned Dark Matter as a three-season story from the beginning. “We designed Season 2, and when we were pitching it to Apple, and we were going through the process of getting it greenlit we designed the whole show to be three seasons,” she said. “We see it as a trilogy,” adding that the team hopes to complete the story on its own terms.

Simpson also shared what he would like to see in a potential third season, particularly when it comes to the future of his character, Ryan.

“Ryan’s been motivated by science his whole life. I would love to see him find a little bit of love. You want that for everybody, right?” Simpson told us. He noted that Ryan has accomplished a great deal but has yet to find the same success romantically, joking that the character deserves something beyond the pavia in his life. His comments suggest he is also interested in the possibility of a Ryan and Amanda relationship.

Simpson acknowledged that Amanda still appears to have feelings for Jason, and Ryan seems to recognize that. While he may have developed a brief crush, Jason’s presence quickly reminds him of the complicated situation. For now, Ryan appears willing to wait, a quality Simpson connected to the character’s remarkable patience and willingness to spend time exploring other universes.

With the series mapped out as a trilogy and the cast already imagining what could come next, the possibility of Dark Matter Season 3 looks promising. More news is expected as Apple TV makes its decision.

When Will Dark Matter Season 3 Come Out?

Because Apple TV has not officially renewed Dark Matter, a Season 3 premiere date has not been announced. The first two seasons arrived roughly two years apart, so even a renewal could mean a significant wait before the next batch of episodes reaches the platform. Stay tuned for updates.
