Kim Kardashian and Kanye West endured numerous turbulent periods during their marriage. At one point, people close to the SKIMS founder reportedly began to recognize that the relationship was far from healthy. One especially disturbing episode allegedly unfolded when Kardashian was held at gunpoint in Uganda.
The reality star’s biography, Citizen Kim, reportedly offers a candid look at the painful reality of her years with West. Author Jonathan Van Meter recounted previously undisclosed incidents, including an account from former Keeping Up With The Kardashians executive producer Farnaz Farjam, who described a troubling incident during a 2018 trip to Uganda.
According to the Mirror, Kardashian and West visited Uganda in 2018, but the rapper’s behavior reportedly shifted dramatically during the trip. At one stage, the I Wonder crooner became convinced that someone was attempting to drug him. His growing paranoia allegedly escalated an already volatile situation.
Farjam said the production team was filming at a remote site when West became increasingly suspicious. “He basically got the local police to believe that there were people trying to drug him, and so they came, and they had guns out. He had them raid everybody’s rooms,” the former executive producer recalled. She said the confrontation became even more alarming when one officer reportedly “had a gun to Kim’s head.”
As tensions intensified, Farjam arranged a private jet to take her crew out of Uganda. Despite the frightening episode, she said she “forgave Kanye,” attributing his actions to his mental health struggles and describing him as being in a “manic place.”

The Uganda incident may have been the second time Kardashian had a gun pointed at her head. She had previously been held at gunpoint during a 2016 robbery in Paris, where thieves reportedly stole jewelry worth millions of dollars, including her engagement ring. Kardashian said the robbers wore police uniforms and forced their way into her room.
Kardashian and West were together for roughly a decade and married for eight years, but their relationship was marked by repeated highs and lows. Kardashian ultimately filed for divorce and publicly discussed West’s bipolar disorder. In her biography, she also described how the strain of their marriage grew more difficult over time.
Speaking with Us Weekly, Kardashian said she experienced “big traumatic experiences” during the marriage. She acknowledged that she learned to cope with certain problems and continue moving forward, but added, “Maybe dealing is not the right word. It’s more like sweeping it away under the carpet.”
Although the same cycle continued, Kardashian said she often felt responsible and wanted to ask Ye what she could do to improve their relationship. She also admitted that some moments left her deeply embarrassed, particularly when “certain things were said during psychotic breaks.” Even after enduring repeated difficulties, Kardashian said she tried to protect Ye and keep his mental health struggles private.
Eventually, Kardashian realized she had to prioritize her own well-being. “When it starts to get to the place where it affects your health and your safety and your mental health, then you’re kind of like, ‘OK, who am I going to save here?’ I gotta save myself. You get to that place,” she said.
The former couple’s divorce became contentious before it was finalized in 2022. Years later, Kardashian and West continue to co-parent their four children: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm.
