NYC Jogger Critically Injured in Multiple Stabbings in Brooklyn

A 28-year-old woman was critically injured after being stabbed several times in the neck while jogging along a Brooklyn waterfront trail Friday night, the New York City Police Department confirmed to News Media.

The stabbing was reported at about 8 p.m. near Shore Parkway and Bay 17th Street in Brooklyn’s Bath Beach neighborhood, according to the NYPD.

Police said the woman was running eastbound on the Shore Parkway Greenway when she sustained multiple wounds to her neck.

Emergency responders took her to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where she was listed in critical condition.

An NYPD spokesperson told News Media on Saturday that the woman was still alive.

Her identity has not been made public, and investigators have not named or located a suspect, the spokesperson said.

The New York Post reported that the woman had been preparing for Sunday’s New York City Marathon, citing police sources.

New York Road Runners (NYRR), the organization that stages the marathon, expressed sympathy for the victim and her family in a statement to News Media.

“We were sad to hear of this horrible attack—our hearts are with her family and the running community,” the organization said.

NYRR said its records indicate that the woman had previously taken part in its races, but the organization could not confirm whether she intended to compete in Sunday’s marathon.

Authorities have not said what preceded the attack or determined whether the woman knew the person who stabbed her.

The assault took place on a waterfront stretch overlooking Gravesend Bay, with views toward Staten Island and the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, The Post reported.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
