Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman sharply criticized outgoing Rep. Elise Stefanik after she dismissed his unsuccessful campaign for governor as “low energy.”
Blakeman, who suffered a decisive defeat to incumbent Gov. Kathy Hochul, losing 60.1% to 39.7%, accused the fellow Republican of failing to support GOP candidates across New York. He also took aim at what he described as Stefanik’s underwhelming political record.
“Elise Stefanik is a selfish, do-nothing politician who didn’t lift a finger to help Republican candidates in New York this year,” Blakeman wrote Thursday afternoon on X.
“She had one moment of glory in what was otherwise an unremarkable career,” he added.
Stefanik had considered entering the governor’s race but abruptly ended those plans as Blakeman’s candidacy gained momentum. Blakeman later secured an endorsement from President Trump.
Stefanik ultimately remained on the sidelines, neither backing Blakeman nor appearing at events during his campaign.
In an interview with The Post on Wednesday, Stefanik said New York Republicans needed to regroup following a string of electoral setbacks.
“The results speak for themselves,” Stefanik said, one day after Democrats reclaimed control of the Senate and Congress and turned five state governorships blue.
