New York City voters rallied behind Gov. Kathy Hochul on Election Day, casting more ballots for the left-leaning Democrat than they did for Mayor Zohran Mamdani in last year’s mayoral race.
Post-election figures show Hochul secured more than 1.5 million votes across the five boroughs Tuesday, surpassing the roughly 1.1 million votes cast in 2025 as Mamdani won his way to Gracie Mansion.
Hochul won more than 76% of the city vote, easily defeating Republican nominee Bruce Blakeman. The Nassau County executive received 468,543 votes in New York City, or 23.7%, according to unofficial Board of Elections results.
Mamdani, a former state Assemblyman, won his first mayoral campaign with 50.8% of the 2025 vote in New York City. The results also reflected the impact of former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a longtime Democrat who ran as an independent and drew support away from Mamdani.

Mamdani, a democratic socialist, celebrated his election victory in Manhattan on Tuesday.
Across New York State, Hochul received 3.5 million votes, nearly 60% of the total, while Blakeman collected almost 2.4 million votes, or slightly more than 40%.
Blakeman, a close ally of President Trump, had narrowed Hochul’s lead to six percentage points in September. But the Republican ultimately fell further behind in the heavily Democratic state.

Throughout the campaign, Blakeman repeatedly attacked Hochul, blaming the governor and Mamdani for New York’s problems, including crime, rising prices and soaring utility costs.
