Woman arrested after allegedly luring man, cutting his throat and dumping his body in another county, sheriff says

Inset: Paula Blancas-Espinosa (Wise County Sheriff’s Office). Background: The area near where a man’s body was found in Wise County, Texas (Google Maps).

A Texas woman is facing a murder charge after allegedly luring a man into her vehicle under the pretense of discussing their relationship, cutting his throat and leaving his body beside a rural road, authorities said.

Paula Blancas-Espinosa, 36, is accused of killing 26-year-old Jorge Sosa-Vargas, according to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office.

The case began on the morning of Nov. 3, when Sosa-Vargas’ body was discovered along Hickory Street in Wise County, about 27 miles northwest of Fort Worth.

Investigators initially focused on identifying the victim, the sheriff’s office said, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by The Messenger. Once Sosa-Vargas’ identity was confirmed, authorities went to his listed Fort Worth residence and spoke with Blancas-Espinosa.

During that encounter, Blancas-Espinosa allegedly told investigators she killed Sosa-Vargas following a domestic dispute, according to law enforcement.

“Blancas-Espinosa [said] she drove Sosa-Vargas to the location in her 2024 Toyota Tundra under the ruse of discussing their problems,” the charging document states. “Blancas-Espinosa [said] she stabbed Sosa-Vargas several times and cut his throat.”

Following the alleged confession, Blancas-Espinosa accompanied Wise County sheriff’s investigators and Texas Rangers to a 7-Eleven gas station in Justin, an outer suburb of Fort Worth located about 15 miles east of where the body was found.

At the convenience store, Blancas-Espinosa allegedly told investigators that she had discarded the knife in a trash can near one of the gas pumps. Investigators confirmed her account with surveillance video, according to the affidavit.

Blancas-Espinosa remains held in the Wise County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

The investigation remains active, authorities said.

“The Wise County Sheriff’s Office appreciates the assistance and cooperation of the public and partner agencies during this investigation,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release announcing the arrest.
