Lord of Mysteries MMO Beta: How to Access Worldwide

Lord of Mysteries MMO, an eagerly anticipated online game inspired by the acclaimed franchise, raises a key question for enthusiasts worldwide: Is it accessible outside China? The answer, however, isn’t straightforward. After conducting an in-depth investigation this morning, our advice leans towards waiting for a global release to ensure a smoother experience. Yet, there are scenarios that allow early access, despite some important caveats to consider, which we will explore in detail.

The game captivates with its unique Victorian-era ambiance. Though initially unfamiliar with the franchise, I find myself intrigued by its potential to reach audiences beyond China. For those eager to explore the Lord of Mysteries MMO internationally, here’s a guide to what you should know.

Can the Lord of Mysteries MMO open beta be played outside of China?

Technically speaking, it’s possible to delve into Lord of Mysteries MMO from locations outside China, despite the absence of an official English version. While I successfully accessed the game without using a VPN, a critical hurdle remains—you must have a Chinese phone number to register for the game.

Considering this requirement, attempting to obtain a rented or purchased Chinese identity is ill-advised due to potential legal ramifications. If you have connections in China or know someone willing to lend a Chinese phone number (and they don’t intend to participate in the open beta themselves), this could be a viable, albeit slightly questionable, workaround.

For those able to gain access and intending to download the game, we provide comprehensive installation details, including an English translation patch option. While a VPN wasn’t necessary during my initial login, this might change once you’re fully engaged in the game, so it’s something to remain aware of during your gaming adventure.

How to set up Lord of Mysteries MMO open beta

Thankfully, it’s not too hard to set up the Lord of Mysteries MMO open beta! Unless you’re skilled at reading Chinese, I highly recommend downloading the latest English Patch and applying it to the game. It can be played on PC/iOS/Android/HarmonyOS, but we only really have information about the Windows PC version.

The English Patch comes courtesy of the CPDD Discord/Gaming Community, who created the English Patch in the first place. You can find it on their Discord, and it’s worth picking up if you plan on checking out Lord of Mysteries MMO.

Steps to install Lord of Mysteries (including English Patch)

  • Go to the official website, and click the red “PC” icon to download the .exe.
  • Open the file, click the box in the bottom left, and the yellow rectangle in the bottom of the client that opens.
  • In the bottom left of the screen that opens, you can select where you want the game to be installed (requires at least 78GB).
  • Click the install button
  • When finished, launch the game and let it run its updates (will restart the game at least once)
  • Close the game, and open the patch file as Administrator
  • Follow the instructions, and relaunch the game
  • Sign in if you have legit credentials

However, a word of caution: Your PC is likely going to flag the English Patch as a Trojan, but it appears to be fine to use. I installed it, but if that is something that concerns you, again, I recommend waiting. There’s no word on if there will be a global release for Lord of Mysteries MMO, but it feels like there are simply too many hoops to jump through to play it outside of China for now.
