TennoCon 2026 Highlights: Anticipated Tau Update Revealed, New Noir-Warframe Introduced, Fall Update Unveiled, and Amir Takes Over Nightwave

Today marks the launch of TennoCon 2026, where fans eagerly received the latest roadmap for Warframe. The much-anticipated journey to Tau is confirmed for this winter, bringing along a brand-new system of planets, fresh enemy factions, and an additional Warframe. This update also promises to introduce an epic new cinematic saga. Moreover, players can look forward to unexpected elements like a hijacked Nightwave season and a yet-to-be-announced update slated for fall 2026.

While this piece won’t cover everything from TennoCon 2026’s main stage, it will highlight major announcements slated for Warframe in the coming months. This includes exclusive insights shared during initial panel discussions, such as details on the newly launched Mesa Heirloom skin. The focal point remains the upcoming Tau update, which had an extensive demonstration at TennoLive.

Everything new revealed in Warframe TennoCon 2026

Enthusiasts eager to dive into details about the Tau update might have to wait just a bit longer. We’ll proceed chronologically, starting with the new Nightwave season set for August, followed by an upcoming update anticipated around October.

New Nightwave season: Amir’s Shockwave

With August fast approaching, the current Nightwave Season, dubbed “Time Tempests,” is winding down. This means players have a limited window to earn the coveted Escuchon Regalia collection if they’ve been out of action recently.

The upcoming season promises an innovative experience, breaking the fourth wall with a unique Dungeons and Dragons-themed adventure.

• The usual voice of Nora is going to be replaced with Amir Beckett from The Hex.
• This hijacked season will be all about Fables and Frontiers, the meta-fictional mock-DnD tabletop RPG Amir has been working on.
• There’s player cards for each of the Hex characters (as well as the antagonists of 1999).
• Most importantly, the KIM system is getting a new expansion with Amir’s Shockwave! There will be a new group chat where you can play out the Fables and Frontiers tabletop mini-adventures. This will be a permanent addition to KIM, although the Amir’s Shockwave reward track will go away when the season ends, as usual.
• There’s another set of Operator/Drifter cosmetic coming at the end of the reward track.
• Amir’s Shockwave will also introduce a new OnLyne song (“Running Late”).
• There’s going to be a “new Eximus unit” inspired by Volt’s abilities (although we already have an Electricity Eximus, so that will be interesting to see).

During the press preview, we also asked whether these Fables and Frontiers character arts were going to be alternate Gemini Skins, which I would buy in a heartbeat if they were real. Rebecca told us a very decisive no, but in the TennoCon live panel, it seems to be a never-say-never thing.

In any case, for now, these will just be Glyphs, and maybe Noggles or other reskin-flavored decors.

Somewhat related: Dog Days event also coming in August 2026. It’s not a particularly lucrative one, though, featuring only the Furax Wraith set and a few Ephemeras that will only last temporarily.

Fall 2026 update: Iceblade of Narin

Usually, this is where Digital Extremes has the Unannounced Fall Update running bit. This year, it’s an announced update, and it’s called the Iceblade of Narin. Further details on it will be revealed in the next Devstream (September 4).

• This will have a bunch of QoL stuff and features (as is usually the case with the Fall update), but probably less so than usual. I think this is likely coming end of September or early October (during the latter set of TennoVIP tours), after Devstream 197 takes place.
• This one will have Narin, the 66th unique Warframe, which will be (surprisingly enough) the second-ever Cold-based Warframe after Frost. The only other detail we know that it’s a female Warframe (following the usual release order, of course).
• Progression-wise, Iceblade of Narin will require at least beating Angels of the Zariman to access its content.
• Citrine Prime is the next Prime Warframe (concept by Kory Cromie), coming with the Iceblade of Narin update.

• Banshee is getting a Deluxe Skin (concept by Mischka) and a rework! Despite going untouched (and therefore arguably quite dated) for a long time, Banshee is still a highly lethal Warframe. That’s partially thanks to cool interactions like the Gloom-subsume build, but a rework would likely make her much, much better.

• The Gargoyle-themed Qorvex Deluxe skin teased during the anime expo last month is also coming in this update.

Everything known about the Warframe: Tau 2026 update

And here’s the main piece of the TennoLive 2026 panel. It’s been long expected that we are going to go to a Tau system at some point, and this one is it. Those who watched TennoCon this year from the in-game live relay will have noticed the new Vessel deposited into the dry dock.

The new Tau System (Fornax)

• This is Artuos/Zioa, the personalized vessel for you that will awaken when they hear the call later this year. With the update, we can hop on our Railjack to finally visit the Tau system.
• At least nine other planets have been shown in the cinematic when you’re making the jump through the Void, and theoretically, the Tau system should have some parallels with the Origin System itself. However, in the update, only Fornax the Ringed City (and one other undisclosed region) will be featured initially.
• Fornax has “tons of mission types” and “structured in a very different way” compared to how themed areas have been done before. Considering that it’s the foundation of its own solar system to be expanded on later, it would certianly have to have a broad stroke of variety in this initial offering.
• The new enemy faction is called Fornax Drowners, but more will pop up as the Tau system gains new planets with future updates.

New Warframe: Brysko

• The Balatro-frame breadcrumbed in the teasers before TennoCon is Brysko, the 67th unique Warframe.
• Not much is revealed about his abilities, other than that he’s a detective-themed Warframe (with what almost seems like a parody of hard-boiled, brooding, monologuing noir protagonists). One ability throws a suite of cards, and seems to strike affected enemies with a jolt of thunder. We also potentially got a glimpse into an enemy-latching ability, but it’s not clear whether that’s part of the sparring weapon Brysko is using in the demo.
• Brysko’s snub-nosed revolver could potentially be an exalted, or his signature sidearm.
• He’s not a Protoframe. However, he does do internal monologuing (voiced by Matt Mercer) as the first-ever “Chimera” Warframe, since Albrecht made him with Sentient technology instead of the average Warframe that’s bio-powered by the Infestation.
• Brysko does have memories of the Old War, so it’s implied that he’s not an all-Albrecht original.
• It’s also implied he’s the last Warframe of them all, which makes sense in the context of Tau.

New Faction

• Although it’s not explicitly put as a traditional syndicate-offering mechanic, Fornax will have Faction progression system. Brysko’s goal is to become a double-agent and a trusted aide of Hunra, the ruling Sentient mob boss in Fornax, before the Tenno reach Tau.
• Fornax has its own obvious noir social themes going on, with a drug-peddling problem (and droves of members from the addicted Sentient underclass), but also likely a Void-storm anomaly called the Black Rain.
• Other bits of worldbuilding featured in the demo include a slot machine out in the wilds (which can apparently give you a plasma shotgun with tracking bullets). I’d not be surprised if we saw some cheeky New Vegas easter eggs at this point.

You can also drive your own Sentient flying car through the ringed motorways of Fornax, so there’s possibly an open world involved. I say “possibly” because Hollvania also had the Atomicycle, only to end up being a tileset anyway, and wide-open tilesets have been the general trend for major Warframe updates for a long time.

The flashback sequence has some crucial lore drop on Margulis/Lotus, specifically the fact that she struck a deal with the Man in the Wall in order to hide the Tenno in the Lua reservoir.

Moreover, Drifter steps in to protect Lotus from Wally’s clutches to some degree, striking another reverse-deal to pave the way for Tau. Also, the little bug that Drifter gets handed is something of a priomordial form of Lotus, who is now immune to the Void.

Portau: New Card game (in Warframe)

Warframe does not have any dearth of a variety in mini-games (including the often-forgotten Frame Fighter). Tau 2026 update is now going to complete the board with a new card game, Portau. This seems to be a poker knockoff with suites of Blooms, Cores, Moons, and Suns, and some of its own ruleset twists to make for a spicier pot.

• The Next TennoCon’s dates have been announced (July 16-17, 2027).
• Excalibur is in Fortnite now.
• The next Devstream (197) will take place on September 4, from the TennoVIP panel in Seoul.
