Colin, an 87-year-old traffic warden, was wrapping up his morning duties in Rossmoyne, located in the southern part of the city, when he fell victim to an assault.
A man clad in black pushed Colin to the ground, seizing his hat and whistle in the process.
Witnesses in the vicinity quickly came to his aid, tending to his head injury before alerting emergency services.
“I hope he is okay. He’s a wonderful person, and we all care about him,” commented a concerned local resident.
Meanwhile, the assailant fled the scene in a Toyota Prado and remains at large as of this evening. In a bid to apprehend the suspect, police have released footage of the incident’s aftermath.
He was described as 183 centimetres tall and aged between 17 to 19 with a black mullet and dark complexion.
Rossmoyne Primary School teachers stepped in to fill Colin’s shift this afternoon as he recovered.
“It’s very important for them to know that it’s going to be safe for them to keep our kids safe on the streets and what has happened to Colin is really sad,” City of Canning Councillor Shen Sekhon said.
Locals say Colin has become a familiar face, never missing a shift, with today a notable exception.
“Every morning when I rock up to work he always gives a smile,” another community member said.
“He’s always talking to everyone who walks past.”
