Daniel Bedingfield opened up about his sexuality for the first time as he spoke about a ‘man he loved’ during a performance at the London Palladium on Tuesday night.

The Gotta Get Thru This singer has been taking a self-imposed hiatus for the past two decades but has returned to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his first hit song.

Addressing the crowds, the singer, 44, said: ‘In my era, you had to be gay or straight, or f*** you. I wrote this song with a man I loved about a girl we both loved.’

The song was called Borderline and afterwards, Daniel spoke about this woman and said how much he and this unknown man missed her when she went away,

He said: ‘I’m not very gay, but we were on a hot spring, sitting on a rock, missing her.’

During the beautifully chaotic show, Daniel, whose sister is Natasha Bedingfield, said that he had no friends growing up until he was about age 16.

He said: ‘I wanted to die’ growing up but he later got friends and said it was both them and music that saved him.

Speaking about his autism, he asked people to ‘be nice to autistic people,’ having previously spoken about how he found fame and criticism overwhelming hard to deal with following his past success.

Daniel famously took a break following a car crash in his home country of New Zealand in 2004 which could have proved fatal.

Appearing on Loose Women last week, he said he decided to move 'somewhere where nobody cares if you’re famous – Los Angeles' following a near fatal car crash back in 2004

He said that he was lying in a hospital bed when he won the Brit for British male solo artist in February of that year.

Appearing on Loose Women last week, he decided to move ‘somewhere where nobody cares if you’re famous – Los Angeles.’

He said; ‘I’ve done farming … homesteading, like chickens and bees and fruit trees and food, forests and ecological stuff, you know, regenerative stuff.’

Adding: ‘If you keep manifesting what you know, you’re just going to keep living what you’ve had, so I thought I should rest completely.

‘I moved to a wildly different culture, LA, oh, my gosh, and completely reimagined what I wanted for my life.

‘And I’ve just sat with, what do I want this next part of my life to be like? So now I’ve come to some conclusions. Now, I’m ready to try this again.’
