Thomas Tuchel has announced that Declan Rice will take on the role of vice-captain for England during the upcoming World Cup, filling in for team leader Harry Kane.
Rice, who is the fifth most experienced player in the current squad, has represented England in 72 international matches.
The 27-year-old midfielder had an outstanding season with Arsenal, not only playing a crucial role as vice-captain but also helping the team to secure the Premier League title. His impressive performances have earned him a nomination for the PFA Player of the Year award.
Although Jude Bellingham took over the captain’s armband from Kane in the second half of England’s 1-0 victory over New Zealand in a recent warm-up match, it will be Rice who steps in as Kane’s deputy for the World Cup.

‘Er, I think I would say Declan is my vice-captain,’ England boss Tuchel said.
‘Does Declan know that?’ Tuchel was asked.
‘That is a good question,’ Tuchel said. ‘I was just thinking about it. Whether it is an official thing or not. But I think we had this talk when Harry was not in camp with us. Was it against Wales? Did Harry miss a game against Wales? Does anyone remember?’
