Queensland residents hit by a flooding emergency say the losses to property have been horrific, as the federal government moves to provide funding and cattle fodder.

More than 100 homes in western Queensland have been flooded and dozens of people airlifted to safety.

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned that river levels are likely to exceed flooding in 1974.

Beef producer Geoff Lloyd was airlifted from his property on Thursday.

“The losses have been horrific,” he told Weekend Today.

“I’ve been flying and living on that river for 30 years, and this is nothing we’ve ever seen.”

He urged the army to step in to redistribute supplies of aviation gas.

“The helicopter pilots out here, the mustering pilots, they’re doing unbelievable work saving people’s lives and stock,” he said.

“But they’ve got to travel too far for avgas. We need avgas delivered close to where they’re working.”

Speaking today in Brisbane, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that funding had been made available for local governments,

$2.5 million dollars in state and federal funding has also been allocated to drop in fodder for cattle that are impacted by these flooding events.

“We will make whatever resources available, including the ADF, its possible that they might assist in some of the drops,” Albanese said.

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned of more rainfall across the state.

There are numerous flood warnings for rivers including the Thomson River, the Paroo River, and the Warrego River basin.

More than 100 homes have now been inundated and dozens of locals airlifted to safety as the flood emergency escalates in western Queensland.

The red dirt town of Jundah, about 1300 kilometres from Brisbane with a population of just over 100 people, is a fresh epicentre for the emergency.

There are fears the floodwaters could wipe the town off the map.

“We have a community without power, without sewerage and we’ve got several evacuations where people have gone to higher ground at the golf course,” Crisafulli said.

Fears remain for hundreds of thousands of cattle and sheep who have become trapped in floodwaters.

Cyclone hits WA, Widespread rain over NSW

Elsewhere, Tropical Cyclone Dianne made landfall on the coast of Western Australia this morning at 5am.

The storm is set to weaken to below cyclone levels throughout the morning.

Dianne is set to pass the small town of Derby, about 200 kilometres northeast of Broome.

In NSW, the Bureau of Meterology has forecast heavy rain for much of the day around Sydney and in the state’s north.

The BoM predicts “Widespread rain and the chance of thunderstorms across most areas, contracting to the east and clearing the far west of the state during the day.”
