In a recent announcement on Truth Social, former U.S. President Donald Trump declared his intention to eliminate tariffs and restrictions on whiskey, in a gesture of respect for the visit of King Charles and Queen Camilla.
The royal couple is concluding their state visit to the United States, during which they received a warm reception from Donald and Melania Trump, along with numerous officials at the White House.
Trump’s social media post did not clarify whether the removal of tariffs was a direct request from the King or simply a suggestion put forth during their discussions.
“In honor of the King and Queen of the United Kingdom, who have just departed the White House and are on their way back to their magnificent country, I have decided to lift the tariffs and restrictions on whiskey. This move will enhance Scotland’s collaboration with Kentucky in the whiskey and bourbon industries, which are vital to both regions,” Trump stated.
He further noted, “There has long been a desire to achieve this, especially given the significant trade relationships involving wooden barrels used in these industries.”
“The King and Queen got me to do something that nobody else was able to do, without hardly even asking!
“A wonderful Honor to have them both in the U.S.A.”
