Yesterday afternoon, police descended on Keysborough Secondary College in the southeastern part of the city following reports of a stabbing incident at around 3pm. A 43-year-old man had been injured.
The injured individual, identified as the school’s principal, Aaron Sykes, was transported to the hospital. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening, and he has since been discharged.
Meanwhile, authorities apprehended a male teacher at the scene. He was also taken to the hospital, receiving treatment for a minor injury while being kept under police supervision.
The suspect, a 37-year-old from Mulgrave, now faces several charges. These include two counts of unlawful assault, causing injury intentionally, reckless behavior endangering serious injury, and assault with a weapon.
Today, the accused is scheduled to appear in Dandenong Magistrates’ Court to address the charges.
In a letter sent to parents, the school said Sykes was “recovering well and is in good spirits”.
The school also assured parents that no student was involved in the incident.
”Any form of violence within our school is entirely unacceptable. We are proud of the safe and supportive culture that is the norm at our school,” the note read.
“We want to assure you that the health and safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority.”
The school has reopened today.
An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
