Overnight, a suburban area in Sydney’s west was placed under lockdown as authorities launched a manhunt for a suspected gunman. The operation extended for several hours as police scoured the vicinity, intensifying their search efforts.
This dramatic pursuit was triggered by what began as a routine traffic stop. Despite the extensive search, the individual managed to evade capture and remains at large as of this afternoon.
The suspect, described as wearing high-visibility clothing, was last observed in the Guildford area. This sighting has directed police efforts as they continue their investigation.
Chief Inspector Rick Agius explained the incident’s origin: “A vehicle displaying irregular number plates breached traffic rules by executing a right-hand turn against posted signs.”
The vehicle, identified as a utility truck, was initially spotted in South Wentworthville. It subsequently led police on a gripping nine-kilometre chase, culminating in the vehicle being cornered by law enforcement.
But the driver made a run for it, firing five shots into the air.
“The male in my opinion is totally irresponsible and stupid in his actions by discharging a firearm in a public place,” Agius said.
“We’re very lucky that no one was injured or killed.”
