Two men have been stabbed during a home invasion in Melbourne‘s north-west, with the offenders still on the run.

Late last night, a group of armed men broke into a residence on Sterling Close in Greenvale, wielding machetes and threatening the family inside.

The intruders spent approximately 15 minutes inside the house, attempting to make off with high-end vehicles and valuable jewelry.

The thieves were attempting to steal luxury cars and jewellery.

However, two men in the home bravely confronted the assailants, ultimately driving them away.

Both men, aged 48 and 35, were later transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries that were thankfully not life-threatening.

“It must have been an incredibly traumatic experience for everyone involved, regardless of whether they were physically assaulted. Just being in that situation would be terrifying,” commented Senior Constable Mitch Jones.

“The injuries sustained by the victims, there’s quite a lot of blood, it’s sprawling all throughout.”

The men who carried out the attack were wearing dark clothing and are believed to be in their early 20s.

They fled in a dark coloured SUV, police say.

Police are still investigating the nature of the attack and whether the two groups knew each other.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam or CCTV footage, or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
