Pauline Hanson, the leader of One Nation, made a dramatic exit from parliament today just before facing censure for her controversial remarks on Muslims during a televised interview.
The censure motion, initiated by Labor, was approved by a 36 to 17 vote, garnering backing from the Greens and two Liberal members who defied party lines.
In a theatrical gesture, Hanson slapped her wrist before leaving the chamber amid the ongoing debate. “There, are you happy? I’ve given myself a slap,” she remarked sarcastically.
Hanson has been at the center of a storm of criticism following her appearance on Sky News last month, where she provocatively questioned, “How can you tell me there are good Muslims?”
