Queensland Train Lines Experience Staggered Closures in Response to Fuel Crisis

Most rail services across Queensland’s south-east will be impacted by rolling track closures during April, just as the fuel crisis means many commuters would rather be leaving the car at home.

Translink has announced significant disruptions to train services from Good Friday through Sunday, April 26. These changes will affect travel plans for Anzac Day ceremonies as well as various NRL and AFL matches.

The disruptions are due to extensive construction work in the area, including the ongoing Cross River Rail project, alongside other essential upgrades and maintenance efforts.

During this period, from Good Friday until April 11, expect closures and changes in timetables on several lines: Airport, Beenleigh, Caboolture, Doomben, Gold Coast, Redcliffe Peninsula, Shorncliffe, and Sunshine Coast.

The Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines will face continued disruptions until April 26.

For those affected, buses will substitute train services on all impacted routes. Travelers are advised to plan their journeys in advance and allocate additional time for commuting.

nine.com.au has contacted the Department of Transport and Main Roads for comment.

Unlike Victoria and Tasmania, Queensland has ruled out offering free public transport, given all trips on Translink services across the state are already capped at 50c.

The price of unleaded in Australia is approaching $2.60 per litre in many areas, while the average price of diesel is now well over $3 per litre.

The price drop won’t be immediate, though, as service stations will need to offload the fuel they purchased at the full excise rate first.
