Popular travel website Booking.com has warned customers that their personal information including booking details and names may have been accessed by an “unauthorised third party”.
Booking.com is one of the largest digital travel companies globally, with more than 28 million accommodation listings worldwide.

In the early hours of today, numerous Australian customers received concerning emails from a company alerting them to potential “suspicious activity” associated with their accounts.

The communication stated, “We’re reaching out to notify you that unauthorized third parties may have accessed specific booking information tied to your reservation.”

Upon discovering this suspicious activity impacting several reservations, the company acted swiftly to mitigate the issue, striving to protect its customers’ information.

The data potentially compromised includes booking details, as well as personal information like names, emails, addresses, phone numbers, and any other details shared with the accommodation.

In response to the data breach, Booking.com has proactively issued new PINs and reservation numbers to those customers it suspects might have been affected.

“The security of your personal information is our utmost priority,” the Booking.com email said.

“We will continue to enhance and extend the robust security measures we have in place to secure your reservations with us.”
