The driver was ultimately cornered by authorities on Spencer Street. In a desperate bid to evade capture, he allegedly tried to squeeze through a narrow opening.

One police officer had to leap aside to avoid the oncoming vehicle, which was barreling towards a taxi.

The incident resulted in several taxis becoming entangled in the ensuing chaos, with one driver trapped in the wreckage as officers closed in on the suspect.

Eventually, the driver was extracted from the vehicle, with police drawing their firearms and Tasers as they moved to detain him.

The man was loaded onto a stretcher and taken to hospital under police guard.
