Authorities conducted interviews with Amalia Freeman, 42, also known as Mali, and a 56-year-old man from Porepunkah, concerning allegations of obstructing police after a fatal shooting incident.
A separate individual faced questioning over an attempted theft.
Despite a thorough investigation and the preparation of detailed evidence reports by detectives, police disclosed today that there wasn’t enough evidence to press charges against the individuals involved.
“Due to the lack of sufficient evidence to support prosecution at this stage, these reports were not authorized,” a Victoria Police representative stated.
“An independent review of these reports reached the same conclusion,” they added.
Nearly six months have passed since Dezi Freeman allegedly fatally shot Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson and Senior Constable Vadim De Waart-Hottart on a Porepunkah property.
Police attended the Rayner Track property on the morning of August 26 to execute a search warrant on behalf of the Wangaratta Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team.
A third officer was seriously injured when Freeman allegedly opened fire on the officers, before he fled into surrounding bushland.
Police Commissioner Mike Bush said at the time the pair was “interviewed totally and specifically related to the homicide investigation”.
They were interviewed and released without charge.
A reward of up to $1 million remains in place for information leading to his arrest.
