A young woman has been arrested in the United States after allegedly stealing more than $AUD3800 of the popular Stanley water cups.

Police were called to a store on Stanford Ranch Road in Roseville, California, on Wednesday afternoon last week over reports of a theft.

The woman had allegedly walked out with a shopping trolley full of the water bottles without paying for them.

Despite being confronted by staff, she allegedly refused to stop and stuffed her car with the stolen goods before driving off.

An officer later spotted the car on a highway and initiated a traffic stop.

“A 23-year-old Sacramento woman was arrested for Grand Theft,” California Police Department said.

“A subsequent search of her vehicle resulted in the recovery of 65 Stanley products valued at nearly $(USD)2500.”

The majority of the stolen Stanley products were the company’s highly sought-after Quenchers – a water cup – which boasts long-lasting insulation.

”While Stanley Quenchers are all the rage, we strongly advise against turning to crime to fulfill your hydration habits,” the department said.
