Alan Titchmarsh has lifted the lid on his “first film credit” that many Gardeners’ World fans somehow missed.

The Love Your Weekend presenter, 75, rose to fame when he hosted the beloved radio show House in a Garden on BBC Radio 2 back in 1988.

It didn’t take long before the star became a national treasure, fronting shows such as Ground Force, Songs of Praise, and The Chelsea Flower Show.

After four decades on the small screen, he has regularly been entertaining viewers with his various horticultural shows, but has never made it to the big screen – until now.

On Monday (February 24), the dad-of-two took to Instagram to share his first film appearance that debuted on Christmas Day which many fans missed.

The TV star shared a screengrab from Wallace and Gromit’s new film A Vengeance Mist Fowl. In the 90-minute film, produced by Aardman Animations, a book titled Gardens of the Galaxy flashed up on screen which proudly featured the famous gardener.

Two months later, the star learnt about his surprise inclusion and he made sure to share the exciting news with his loyal fanbase online.

Sharing a snap of the clip, he captioned the post: “Here’s to Wallace and Gromit for allowing me to ‘appear’ in the double BAFTA winning ‘Vengeance Mist Fowl!’ My first film credit!!!! Wallace has great taste when it comes to reading! Thank you Aardman. Such an honour [heart-eyes emoji].”

It didn’t take long before fans flooded to the comments to shower the star with compliments online. One user penned: “How wonderful.

The details in that, and other, films are just amazing. You see something different with every viewing [shifty-eyes emoji, heart-eyes emoji].”

Another added: “I missed that! I am not surprised it won a BAFTA. It is brilliant [heart emoji, two applause emojis]” as a third echoed: “Hee-hee… I missed that one! You are a legend [thumbs up emoji].”

Meanwhile, a fourth suggested: “I saw that when I watched the movie at Christmas, made me smile. You should definitely write a version of it for the real world Alan, it would sell like hot cakes [smiling emoji, thumbs up emoji].”
