A much-loved EastEnders child star has undergone a remarkable transformation — both in appearance and career — years after leaving one of Britain’s most iconic television dramas.

An adored former child star from EastEnders has seen a striking evolution in both his looks and career since his departure from one of the UK’s most beloved television series.

James Forde, who was a fixture on the show from 2008 until 2015, played Liam Butcher on the popular British soap opera. Today, he has embarked on a life path that is significantly different from his days on the small screen.

Stepping into the role at the age of 12, James portrayed the son of characters Ricky Butcher and Bianca Jackson for seven years, becoming a familiar face to viewers.

Before James assumed the role in 2008, the character of Liam had been played by six other actors. However, James became the most memorable and longest-serving Liam on the show.

Now nearing his 30s, James, once known for his youthful appearance, has transformed into a handsome young man. Fans can catch a glimpse of his new look—complete with a full beard and shaved head—on his Instagram account (@jfordee), as highlighted by OK! magazine.

What is perhaps most striking, however, is the dramatic direction his career has taken since his celebrated days on Albert Square.

Following his departure from EastEnders in 2015, James has pursued a fascinating career path, switching professions entirely. The former actor chose to leave the glitz and glamour behind for good, pivoting into a vastly different field.

After leaving television, James initially took up work as a builder, playfully dubbing himself ‘Bob the Builder’ on social media, as he began sharing life updates with his dedicated fans and followers.

According to his recent updates on Instagram regarding his current occupation, the former actor has been seen working as an engineer for satellite firm AAA Satellites and Aerials.

Frequently photographed in his work clothes, the former child star has been spotted wearing AAA branded clothing while on site as he cheerfully poses for photographs and selfies.

James routinely shares updates and selfies from his work locations with his 38,000 Instagram followers, alongside life updates with family and friends.

In fact, the actor is remarkably satisfied with the path his life has followed.

Following Liam Butcher’s role being recast in 2021 – with Alfie Deegan taking over the beloved EastEnders character’s part – James’ fans turned to social media to voice their disappointment.

Addressing the matter directly on X (formerly Twitter), James wrote at the time: “Appreciate the love people but don’t be upset.

“I chose myself to be a builder and not an actor and I am genuinely happier than ever right now. Do what works for you and be happy.”

The Butcher family, which included characters such as Frank Butcher (Mike Reid), Ricky Butcher (Sid Owen) and the legendary Pat Butcher (Pam St Clement), remains one of the most memorable families in EastEnders history.

As the family expanded, Ricky subsequently had a son with his wife Bianca (Patsy Palmer), naming him Liam, who was born prematurely on Christmas Day in 1998.

Throughout his time on the soap, James’ character Liam featured in a number of hard-hitting plotlines, including a dyslexia diagnosis that highlighted the difficulties he encountered during his school years.

Beyond this, Liam also briefly fell in with a gang, which led to his arrest and ultimately saw him stabbed by a rival gang member.

Liam also struck up a romance with Cindy Williams (played by Mimi Keene), with the pair choosing to leave Albert Square together in 2015 alongside Cindy’s newborn daughter Beth, as they looked to build a new life in Germany with the help of Liam’s father Ricky Butcher.

In 2021, Liam’s character (now portrayed by Alfie) made a brief return to the small screen, appearing in the show between October 2021 and December 2021.

Liam ostensibly came back to support his sister Tiffany Butcher-Baker, yet it soon became clear that his return was masking far darker secrets.
