Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin, 64, admitted he was “shocked” to see Prince Harry, 38, and Meghan Markle, 41, at the Ripple of Hope Award Gala in New York yesterday. The 30 Rock star went on to joke that he could “be their driver”, as he spoke to reporters on the red carpet.
Alec, who accidentally shot and killed “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, last year, attended the star-studded event with his wife Hilaria Baldwin, 38.
The famous former royals were also in attendance, after the couple were named “Ripple of Hope” laureates by the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organisation.
The honour is given to people that the organisation calls “exemplary leaders across government, business, advocacy, and entertainment who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to social change and worked to protect and advance equity, justice, and human rights.”
At the event, Alec admitted to reporters that he was unaware of Harry and Meghan’s upcoming bombshell Netflix series.

Ahead of the Harry & Meghan documentary’s highly-anticipated release, Alec praised the pair for their handling of the press amid personal struggles.
Prior to the couple’s arrival, Alec, who was set to be the MC for the night, was quizzed on what he thought of them.
“I was kind of shocked for them to come here and do this,” he confessed.
Asked what he admires most about the pair, he added: “To handle difficult circumstances in the press without having too much difficulty. There’s always going to be certain difficulties.”
He went on to praise Harry and Meghan, saying: “They’ve obviously chosen a different path and good for them.
“Sometimes I think I want to choose a different path so we’ll see, maybe I can be their driver,” he joked.

“They’re newly arrived in the states. They haven’t been here that long. I think it’s great that they have agreed to support this cause which we’ve supported for years.”
He concluded by telling them to “enjoy New York”, according to The New York Post.
Harry and Meghan have been honoured alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and late NBA star Bill Russell for their humanitarian efforts.
Netflix is describing their new show Harry & Meghan as an unprecedented and in-depth look at one of the most-discussed couples in history.
Aside from the docuseries, which is set for release later this month, Harry is gearing up to release his 416-page memoir next month.
The highly-anticipated book, which is titled Spare, will be available on January 10, 2023.
Piers Morgan was left fuming earlier this week after his voice was used in the trailer for the upcoming show.
In view of his 8.2 million Twitter followers, Piers captioned the clip: “BREAKING: Princess Pinocchio & Prince Hypocrite use my voice to flog their ghastly new series.
“I’m traumatised by this exploitation,” the journalist added sarcastically.
“They already tell yet another lie in the first trailer with the Harry Potter paparazzi shot,” he wrote in another tweet.
“These two wouldn’t know the truth if it slapped them round their latte-encrusted tiaras.”
Express.co.uk contacted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s representatives for comment at the time.
