Amy Schumer has openly shared her journey with weight loss medications and their impact on her health over the last couple of years.
In March 2025, Schumer revealed that three years prior, she had experimented with the GLP-1 medication Wegovy. Her experience, however, was far from pleasant.
“I was puking. I couldn’t handle it,” Schumer confessed in an Instagram video. “I’m not sure if they’ve changed the formula since then. Anyway, I had a Telehealth consultation with Midi Health, which was affordable. I wanted to try it myself before recommending it to my friends who are nurses and teachers.”
During this process, Schumer discovered she was in premenopause, leading to her being prescribed “estrogen and progesterone.”
“My hair is fuller, my skin is better, I have more energy, I want to get down more, if you know what I mean,” she said. “I’m talking about sex. So that’s been great and Mounjaro’s been great.”
According to WebMD, while Mounjaro is similar to other drugs such as Wegovy or Ozempic because they all contain GLP-1 that assists in weight loss, Mounjaro is specifically designed to help diabetes patients with weight management. Common side effects can include nausea and diarrhea.

Schumer revealed that she had tried Ozempic — but stopped using it due to the negative side effects it had on her.
“Like a year ago, I tried it. I was one of those people that felt so sick and couldn’t play with my son,” the comedian explained during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. “I was so skinny and he’s throwing a ball at me and [I couldn’t].”
Schumer realized that the effects were not “livable” for her — however, she “immediately invested because I knew everyone was going to try it.”
“Everyone has been lying, saying, ‘Oh smaller portions.’ Like shut the f*** up. You are on Ozempic or one of those things or you got work done. Just stop,” she noted. “Be real with the people. When I got lipo, I said I got lipo.”

Nearly two years after revealing she tried Ozempic, Schumer opened up about the experience once again, noting that she also has a gene that makes her more “prone to nausea.”
“I have this gene, GDF15, which makes you extremely prone to nausea, which is why I was so sick during my pregnancy,” Schumer said on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show at the time. “So, I tried Ozempic almost three years ago and I was like, bedridden. I was like, vomiting — and then you have no energy. But other people take it and they’re all good. So, God bless them.”
Schumer added that she “lost 30 pounds so quick” on the drug.
“I looked great, but I couldn’t lift my head off the pillow. So what’s the point?” she shared.
March 2025

After revealing that she moved off of the GLP-1 medication Wegovy, Schumer said that she had been on Mounjaro to help with weight management.
“And, look, it’s not covered by insurance unless you have diabetes or like severe obesity, which most of the internet thinks I have,” the actress said in an Instagram video. “But I’m having a really good experience with it and I wanted to keep it real with you about that.”

Schumer addressed her followers’ reactions to losing weight on social media, noting that she didn’t do it to “look hot” but rather “to survive.”
“I had a disease that makes your face extremely puffy that can kill you but the internet caught it and that disease has been cleared,” Schumer said via Instagram Video referring to being diagnosed with Cushing syndrome in February 2024. “Sorry for whatever feeling it’s giving you that I lost that weight.”
Schumer noted that she has “had plastic surgery over the years” and uses Mounjaro.
“Sorry to anyone that lets down. I’m pain free. I can [play] tag with my son,” she explained.
