April 19th is going to be a huge day for Taylor Swift, as she’s releasing her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poet’s Department, which she announced earlier this year at the Grammy Awards. But it’s not only a huge day (or moment in her career) simply because it’s her first album since 2022’s Midnights. Moreover, it’s expected to be the first time Taylor publicly opens up about her break-up from Joe Alwyn after six years, which was shockingly revealed at the start of 2023.
With a reputation about using her love life as inspiration for her songs, even making some tracks clearly about her exes (like the song “Dear John,” widely theorized to be about her ex John Mayer), fans have long assumed the singer’s forthcoming music would shed light on her and Alwyn’s relationship. Taylor has already teased lyrics from the album, with fans speculating they’re about Joe.
Why Taylor’s Alum Release Date Is So Significant
It seems like everything Taylor is doing with her album’s promotion has significance, which has Swifties more eager than ever (and is a good marketing strategy). She announced the album’s name at the Grammy’s, with fans instantly connecting it to Joe based on a previous comment he made. But the date of the album’s release is significant, as well.
For one, April 19, 2023, was the day Taylor was spotted grabbing dinner with Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds shortly after her and Joe’s break-up, only for fans to notice she unfollowed him.
Moreover, April 19 is the date of the American Revolution. Taylor is known as Miss Americana or America’s sweetheart, while Joe is a British native. Coupled with the fact that her album has a song called, “So long, London,” it seems like another hint that Swift chose the 19th with purpose.
Moreover, it’s also Poetry and the Creative Mind Day. Reports have long suggested that Joe wasn’t comfortable with the level of fame that came with Taylor’s successful career, suggesting her love for the arts – aka. her music – drove them apart.
Joe may not be the only man referenced on Taylor’s new album. The pop star seems to be happily moved on with Travis Kelce, so there may be a few references or two (or entire songs?) dedicated to her new beau. The couple confirmed their relationship status in the fall, though they apparently started dating before that.
Since then, Taylor and Travis have being seemingly inseparable, with her cheering him on at the Super Bowl while he’s joined her on Eras Tour stops. Clearly, Travis isn’t afraid to have their relationship in the spotlight (even though it’s caused security concerns for his family, even forcing him to sell his Kansas home and upgrade to a new one with enhanced features), with fans noting how different Travis seems to Joe.
There have been reports that Joe is nervous about the album’s release, given how it should affect his reputation. Needless to say, April 19th is going to be a big day, for Taylor, Joe, and of course, Swifties.
