Although She’s Better Known For Her Role In Parks And Recs, Aubrey Plaza’s Career Is So Much Bigger Than That

Aubrey Plaza began her acting and comedy career performing improv and sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in 2004. She also did some stand-up comedy and even appeared at the Laugh Factory and The Improv at some point early in her career.

Following this, Aubrey starred in shows like the online series The Jeannie Tate Show, ESPN’s Mayne Street, and even one episode of Terrible Decision with Ben Schwarts on Funny or Die.

In 2009, she made her feature film debut by playing Seth Rogen’s love interest in Funny People, a movie directed by Judd Apatow. That same year, she starred in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Derrick Comedy’s Mystery Team.

She finally got her breakout role when she got the role of April Ludgate in the sitcom Parks and Recreations, created by Greg Daniels y Michael Schur. Plaza’s character soon became a fan-favorite and she would go on to play April during the show’s seven seasons (from 2009 to 2015).

In 2012, Plaza got her first leading film role in Safety Not Guaranteed. Following this, she appeared on many other movies, including The To Do List (2013), Life After Beth (2014), Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (2016), Child’s Play (2019), and Happiest Season (2020), Black Bear (2020), and Emily the Criminal (2022).

Most recently, Aubrey Plaza starred in the second season of HBO’s series The White Lotus, alongside stars such as Jennifer Coolidge, Theo James, and Tom Hollander. Plus, it was recently announce that Plaza has been cast in an undisclosed role in the Disney+ series Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Marvel Cinematic Universe’s new spin-off series.

Fans Love Aubrey Plaza For Her Awkward And Unique Personality

Aubrey Plaza is one of the most beloved stars, mainly because of her awkward and weird personality. Her charisma and awkwardness have brand her as one of the most down-to-eath and most relatable celebrities of the moment.

And, she’s often compared to her Parks and Recretion character, April Ludgate, although the star has admitted that she feels like she’s more like Leslie Knope.

Plaza’s unique personality is such a big part of her personality that even the casting director for Parks and Recreation once described her as the weirdest girl he’d ever met.

“I have no idea what I did in that meeting to weird them out so badly. But I think I just didn’t realise what a big opportunity this was for me. I had never been to Hollywood before. I was a huge fan of The Office and this meeting was on the set of The Office, and I was so distracted by all the famous people walking around, like, ‘Oh my God, it’s BJ Novak! And Mindy Kaling!’ I think maybe they were more used to normal actors who seem like they are actually trying to get the job”, she told The Guardian.

Aubrey Plaza Believes That Her Awkwardness Can Be Explained By Her Past

In a recent interview for Conan, Aubrey Plaza revealed the reason why she thinks she’s so awkward nowadays. Turns out that, when she was younger, Aubrey Plaza used to practice Irish dancing. Not only that, but she would even participate at Irish dancing competitions.

“It was an existential moment I had where I realized like oh that’s probably why I’m so awkward and weird is because I was taught at a young age to have no expression,” the Parks and Recreation star told Conan.

Whatever the reason why she’s so weird, it’s no secret that her awkward personality, along with her incredible acting skills, is one of the main reasons why Aubrey Plaza is so beloved by fans.
