Authorities Utilize Advanced Scanner Technology to Locate Missing Person Nancy Guthrie via Pacemaker Signal

In the ongoing quest to locate Savannah Guthrie’s missing mother, authorities have turned to advanced technology, deploying a sophisticated scanner to help trace Nancy Guthrie’s pacemaker.

A report from Fox News Digital on February 14 detailed that law enforcement is utilizing a state-of-the-art Bluetooth scanner mounted on helicopters. The aim is to detect signals from the 84-year-old’s pacemaker, aiding in the search efforts.

Helicopters conducting the search fly at low altitudes in grid patterns to maximize the chance of picking up the pacemaker’s signal, the report noted. One such helicopter was seen near the Guthrie residence three days following Nancy’s disappearance, though it remains unclear if it was equipped with the scanner at that time.

Providing an update on the search, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos shared the challenging reality of the situation. Nancy, who was reported missing on February 1, is the mother of Savannah, Annie, and Camron Guthrie. Her husband, Charles Guthrie, passed away in 1988 due to a heart attack.

Savannah Guthrie's Mom Nancy's Search Mission Is a 'Race Against Time,' Says Sheriff

Describing the search as “a race against time,” Sheriff Nanos expressed concern on the February 3 episode of the Today show, hoping that the opportunity to find Nancy hasn’t slipped away. He noted that samples were taken during the investigation, although he did not specify further.

“Maybe it’s an hour from now,” Nanos told The New York Times on Friday, February 13, of the ongoing efforts to locate Nancy, adding that 400 people have been assigned to the case and investigators are “looking hard.”

“Maybe it’s weeks or months from now,” he continued of a potential timeline associated with finding the missing mom. “But we won’t quit. We’re going to find Nancy. We’re going to find this guy.”

That same day, multiple SWAT, forensic officers and law enforcement vehicles were spotted in Nancy’s neighborhood, according to CNN and NewsNation. CNN reported that officers were seen focusing their efforts on two specific locations, though no arrests were made in connection with the case. Authorities did reportedly question a man about his apparent involvement, but he was ultimately released.

“We may see a couple more of these as this goes on,” CNN Chief Law Enforcement and Intelligence Analyst John Miller told the outlet, further speculating that the case will likely pick up speed because there’s a “victim in the balance.”

“I think we saw that again last night,” he added, “but this particular lead is not going to go any further.”

A representative for the Sheriff’s department also confirmed that there had been “law enforcement activity” in the area on Friday related to Nancy’s potential kidnapping case.

“Because this is a joint investigation, at the request of the FBI, no additional information is currently available,” the statement read via X. “There is no press briefing scheduled for tonight regarding the Nancy Guthrie investigation.”

Pima County Sheriff Details Clues That Nancy Guthrie Is in Danger

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has revealed that after learning more about the scene of the crime, he concluded Savannah Guthrie‘s mom, Nancy Guthrie — who’s been missing since Saturday night — is in danger. “We don’t want anybody to lose hope,” Nanos told Us Weekly exclusively on Monday, February 2. “But in the same […]

Savannah, meanwhile, has remained absent from the Today show studio as the search for her mother continues, issuing several public pleas amid her time away from the morning talk show. (Savannah also withdrew from 2026 Winter Olympics coverage amid her mother’s disappearance.)

“Mommy, if you are hearing this, you are a strong woman,” Savannah said alongside her siblings in one upload shared via social media. “You are God’s previous daughter, Nancy. We believe and know that even in this valley, He is with you. Everyone is looking for you, Mommy, everywhere. We will not rest.”
