Barbara Windsor’s husband Scott Mitchell has shared a public message of support for TV presenter Fiona Phillips after she shared her heartbreaking diagnosis with Alzheimer’s disease.
Scott, 60, has been particularly affected by Fiona’s news following Barbara’s death from the same condition in 2020.
Reacting to her news, the Alzheimer’s Research ambassador said: “I am so very sad to hear about Fiona. I remember her being so kind about Barbara and I when we went public in 2018 in her own column.
“She personally sent me a lovely supportive message at the time.
“I am thinking of Fiona and her family.
“We at Alzheimer’s Research UK will not stop until we find treatments to stop this awful disease and keep searching for a cure,” he added to The Sun.

Fiona, 62, went public with her illness on Wednesday after receiving her diagnosis last year.
Devastatingly, the GMTV star lost both her parents to the disease and her grandparents and uncle also battled it.
Sharing the news to The Mirror, Fiona said: “This disease has ravaged my family and now it has come for me. And all over the country there are people of all different ages whose lives are being affected by it – it’s heartbreaking.”
Remaining optimistic, Fiona hopes she “can help find a cure which might make things better for others in the future”.
The mum-of-two, who is married to This Morning editor Martin Frizell, says her condition is in the mild stages and she has been accepted onto a trial for a revolutionary new drug.
It is hoped that the new treatment could slow the disease’s progress, but it is still too soon to determine whether it works.
